Giving up is hard to do

We are in a material world as Madonna would say and I would agree with her fully. At least we were living that way up until recently. It is more like living in a leaking tank of water at the moment I am sure most of us would agree with that analogy. And the holes don't seem to be able to be plugged very quickly at the moment as the councils can't afford it, but that's another matter. The fact cannot be ignored that money is tight and credits tighter still. A fact I have been aware of and adjusting my life round for over three years. That is how long, as far as I am concerned this recession has been rumbling on for. You see a recession is personal too; it means we have to do without things, it maybe the odd loaf of bread it might be a new Ferrari but each of us needs to make some sacrifices, something many people do not want to admit to or even contemplate. Certainly the governments want you to spend your way out by using that money that they think you keep from them to pay for it. Again, this is a subject for another time.

Making the odd sacrifice is not such a great deal really to keep what you really want and discard the excess can be a very good thing. You are reading this on a computer or similar device which is probably in the house or work both of which are good things, by that I mean that you have both a job and a house and probably some means of transport too. If it came down to it which one would you give up? Why? Each of us will have different answers mainly due to our circumstances.

The reason why I said my recession began three years ago is that I had met someone, someone exceptional; I was willing to give everything I had up just for that person. To be with that one person, I was willing to sacrifice everything. I never expected to be taken at my word.

I have lost all but the person I love and the love that has grown from that relationship. The actual losses are not overly important. Suffice to say homelessness and inability to work are two big features in that list. And yet there is still little I would keep in my life just to be with the loved ones in my life regardless of circumstances. I would struggle however to give up my computer and not for the reason you would think; to allow others to understand what I write as my hand writing is frankly disgusting; I write if you can call it that, in block capitals and it still looks like the road to hell. And that would be about it on the material things.

The fact that I never thought I would lose as much as I have never entered my addled head but now that I have I am in a very odd way happier, happier because all those things we work towards, the holidays, the cars, the little luxuries of life don't matter nearly as much as having your family to help you when the chips are down. In fact the goods that we accumulate actually become a burden in themselves; to move from one place to another. Now I am not encouraging us all to give up or stuff and give it away. But what I am saying is that when we do have to give up the plasma TV or the third holiday or whatever it is we sacrifice at this difficult time for all of us. We should be thankful that is all we are giving up because there will be people having to sacrifice much more than you or me. One other point to bear in mind; you never know when it might be you. I never thought it would be me, but then again I was willing to sacrifice all I had for love. Keep smiling and be careful what you wish for. Ü

A new economic system?

I guess we all need held and to hold what is dear to us, a fundamental need that has to be learned, though there is an instinct to be held by our mother it is unlearned and re learned in a different fashion. To hold the one you love makes us forget all the problems of the world and lets us see what is really important in life, not the project at work or the bullying colleague but the person we are squeezing probably a little too tightly in order to compensate. It is time to look to what is important to all of us because the economic structure that we once knew seems to be crumbling and a new more exciting opportunity could be ready in its stead. If we look at the whole problem of disappearing and government propped banks and financial institutes we see there is a crying need to change to something else an opportunity to be rid of financial greed, a time of making the focus of our life something non tangible but something emotional. I am not naive I see that not all of us can attain th...

Shleep!

Shleep! It is a curious thing this sleep thing we all do it to some varying degree, but it is the lack of slumber that is more curious sometimes its exterior causes sometimes its self induced and even illness, stress love and hate seems to get in the way of a good nights sleep. I'm not very sure what category a baby comes under, I can think of a few namely self induced, love and interior causes. I as a male of middling years( I never thought I would be able to say that) do not cope well with sleep deprivation, I suspect that most men feel comfortable in this category. Women however tired they seem to get stay on a relatively level keel and to this I am in deep, deep awe though I suspect that even the most stalwart of mothers might cringe at the thought of a few weeks of sleeplessness care of their loved one's nocturnal habits only to get this sleeping sickness back on to a normal routine, only to be kept awake from the bleating of new sheep. I find it a deep irony that we cou...
